I am Alan, the founder of ZapSplat. It all started in 1997, when I recorded my first sound effect with a PZM microphone. I was hooked, starting an obsession with sound that would eventually lead to the creation of one of the world’s largest free sound effect libraries.

And here we are in 2023, a vast collection of sound effects and music creatives can use for free, with a growing premium selection from some of the world’s best sound designers and field recordists.

All the sound effects and music in our library are recorded by us, or we sign distribution agreements with our contributors. So you’re safe in the knowledge that any sound file you use from us is 100% safe and legal for you to use royalty-free in your projects.
