Zapsplat.com is a free sound effect and music library. We always have been and we always will be. From day one, our mission was to provide a wide range of sounds that filmmakers, game and app developers, animators, students, teachers, website developers and anyone else can use safe in the knowledge that they are 100% legal to use.
Our other promise was that the library would remain a growing resource and that new sound effects and music would be added weekly. Back in 2015, we launched with just 6,000 sfx and two years later we’ve just hit 16,000. In fact we now record and create more new sounds per week than ever before, often uploading around 100 a day so you’ll see our range of sounds grow very quickly.
So why donate?
To keep creating new sounds daily and to service the growing number of visitors and members we have come to the site every day, we have costs that are growing just as fast. From our server costs, online audio storage and backups, email server (we have to pay for all those emails we send out confirming your registration or when you forget your password), equipment costs (microphones, recorders, software, computers) and our time. We work almost daily to bring these sounds to you and we don’t get paid!
So we rely on donations to cover these costs, keep our servers running, update equipment and allow us to keep on recording more and more sounds.
We recently changed our donation system to a yearly one, from the old lifetime system for new members. The reason was we just weren’t getting enough money to cover costs regularly. So by giving a small amount that lasts a year, or yo can make it recurring each year (you choose how much and can cancel at anytime) we know that over time, our costs will definitely be covered allowing us more time to keep on recording.
For as little as £10 for a year you get access to the higher quality versions of every sound effect and music track on our website. We also remove the attribution element of our Standard License while your account is upgraded to Gold (and the removal of the attribution stipulation stays with any sounds downloaded while your account is upgraded to Gold, even if you cancel your donation and return to a Basic Account). Also downloading is quicker for Gold accounts as the download modal box is removed.
So what happens if we eventually manage to raise more than enough money to cover our monthly costs? Firstly we’ll employ another sound designer to work with us and record and create even more new sounds and music. Any funds we receive will be used to grow this website and library, benefiting all that use us.
